Holy Grails Makeup & Skincare

Been through some Holy Fails,
but finally found my HOLY GRAILS!
I have always been a makeup hoarder, but it is never enough… especially when you expect something to be AMAZING per the reviews and the hype, but then it ends up being a holy fail for your skin type or it is the completely wrong shade then what you wanted and it gets thrown in the “maybe I’ll use it again one day draw”. Makeup affects us all in different ways due to our skin being dry, oily or combination. For myself, I am more towards the oily/ combination side of the fence, but I think this list below is a pretty good set of products that will work for all different skin types. I hope after reading this blog post one or more products can be implemented in your makeup routine to either get you a good start or amp it up for what you have been missing!
SmashBox Photo Finish Primer - $36 (sample size is $16 if you just wanted to try)
This is my base to get my face beat for the day. This is a matte primer (by the way, if you are at all oily this will be your saving grace) that smooths skin, blurs flaws and helps makeup last all hours of the day and night.
If the SmashBox primer is too pricey for you or you are just trying to get the hang of makeup in general I would HIGHLY recommend the Elf Poreless Face Primer - $5. It has the same consistency as the SmashBox and almost has the same wear, but for my skin type my makeup stays longer with the SmashBox Primer
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation - $35
When I say, this is the most amazing foundation I have ever tried… I mean THIS IS THE BEST, MOST AMAZING, LIQUID GOLD of a foundation that I have found in all my years of wearing makeup. I have been using this liquid foundation for a little over a month now and I don’t think I will every go back. In this picture above I am wearing this foundation where I was in the most humid part of Florida near the swamp lands and it did not budge. It is a soft matte medium coverage foundation, but can definitely be built to full coverage. The bonus is that is has every shade under the sun, but I would recommend getting a shade or two lighter as it tends to oxidize once it hits the skin. For applying I use a damp beauty blender to keep the foundation wet as it tends to dry fast to the face.
Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer - $27
This hydrating, long wearing concealer can cover any bump, mark or bag you throw its way. I struggle with red bags under my eyes and this vanishes them when applied while keeping them look moisturized. Plus, it has a tapered wand applicator for easy application. Personally, I usually mark up where I need to cover and then blend out with a damp beauty blender which keeps it flawless the entire time I am wearing it!
Mac Mineralize SkinFinish Natural - $35
Just like every good cake needs frosting; every good liquid foundation needs a good setting powder. I would recommend the Mac Mineralize SkinFinish because it is light and absorbs the excess wet foundation so other powder products can be applied.
Benefit Cosmetics Cheek Parade Palette - $58
This is a real tried and true for me because I can pack this up and have blush and bronzer all in one. This palette is more on the pricey end, but if you look at the numbers you get two bronzers and three blushes which are usually $29 a piece by themselves. You really get your bang for your buck on this one and it is a one stop shop!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits - $40
My heart just broke a little bit because the Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit I was going to recommend was limited addition (if you find one snag it while you can because it is EVERYTHING), but is the candles to my cake lighting up my face with a blinding glow. I still would highly recommend the Anastasia Beverly Glow Kits all they all have an immense amount of pigmentation.
If you do not like these types of highlighters a more subtle, yet still blinding, highlights are the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter - $38. My personal favorite shades are Opal (Golden Pearl), Champagne Pop (Rose Gold Champagne Color) or Moonstone (Pale Gold)
Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette X MORPHE - $38
I recommend this palette to EVERYONE because these shadows are so blendable, have the best pigmentation and you really get your money’s worth with it breaking down to being a little over $1 for an eye shadow. You can create almost any eye look with each shadow which were personally customized differently by YouTuber Jaclyn Hill! She taught me all that I know just by watching her YouTube videos, so if you get some time get over to her channel with some popcorn and/or sweet treats because you will be glued for a while with all the tips and tricks she has in her vault of videos.
It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara - $24
Boy, is that a mouth full, but it lives up to its name. This mascara is as black and it can go leaving your lashes thick, long and separated with no clumps. Been using this one for little over a month now and love it. The only thing I would recommend is do not go heavy handed with it because it can weigh your lashes down.
Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner - $8
This eyeliner and I have been in a long-term relationship since the beginning makeup days and I have been through countless tubes over the years and is the only makeup piece I have never strayed away from. It is the blackest eyeliner and glides on very easy with a straight and precise line. The bonus, IT’S UNDER $10!
Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade - $18
This is a newbie for me, but I have fallen in love with the quality and preciseness of this product. It glides on smooth not giving you any hassle (as other products tend to bleed or stray away in different directions) and has a very buildable consistency. A tip I would recommend with this one as well is be light handed and draw out what shape you want your eyebrow to look like first before you get “brow happy” and look like the dad from American Pie. If you don’t get the reference, look it up and you will understand!!
I thought I would be able to find a knock off brush too to use this product, but to get the exact look you want with the right amount of precision I would highly recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brush #12
MAC Lipsticks - $17.50 (or free with 6 recyclable old MAC packages)
Velvet Teddy (Matte) - This is the PERFECT brown nude and has been my everyday go to lipstick for a while now, but I have been flipping back and forth with a newbie Cosmo (Amplified Lipstick) which is more of a pinky nude with a creamy consistency. Both are PERFECT to add to the collection and yes, they are two different colors!
Now to take all of this off at the end of a long day is a whole other story. As I have always struggled with acne I need the strongest most effective products for my skin that will not break me out or cause harm.
Garnier SkinActive Miceller Cleansing Water All-In-1 Cleanser and Waterproof Makeup Remover - $9
This is the start to my removal process and MELTS my makeup right off. I use a little cotton pad with a decent amount of product and go over my whole face to loosen up the product and get the majority, if not all, of the product off on my face for the next step.
Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing & Makeup Remover- $7
This cleanser really removes all the excess dirt and makeup off my face and removes my mascara with ease, which could sometimes be the biggest obstacle. Plus, it is gentle on the skin while making my face as soft and clean as possible (there are two different types, so get the one with the thicker/whiter consistency)
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel - $27
Moisturizing your face is absolutely essential for a prepped face for makeup, but it is just as important to moisturize your face after the makeup is all off. Even if you oily like me it is very important not to skip this step because funny enough, our face produces more oil if we do not provide oil/ moisture back to it… go figure.
Boscia Charcoal Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment - $38
This was a newbie for me until I used the whole sample size I got in my Sephora Play box!! This mask is amazing for making pores disappear, dry spots and absorbing any excess oil. It contains black and white charcoal which pulls out impurities and deep cleanses the skin.
Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask - $26
I wear this any chance I get, but most importantly before bed, after I wash off my makeup where my body is resetting and generating new cells. This lip mask is a thick formula that smooths and hydrates my lips which keeps my lips in good shape which helps when applying lip products.
Clarisonic Mia 1 or 2 Skin Cleaning System - $129 - $169
Now, as you can see this is the priciest item on the list, but it is not an essential. This has just helped me clean and prep my skin for when I am about to do my makeup to give me a fresh and ready surface to apply makeup. Sometimes they even have sales or Groupons for Clarisonics, so steal them when you get a chance (I waited for a sale with mine and spent $99)
I really hope these products help your everyday makeup routine as they have helped mine. There is a link after each product if you want to check them out for yourself! Leave me some feedback below if you tried some of the products above, I would love to see the looks or hear how they worked for you!!
See you soon,

Katie Did❣
